Recruiting is starting…and besides me and your professors asking students to tutor, you all can talk it up with your classmates. You guys know what being up here really involves. Be thinking of which of your fellow students would be good up here. Who would appreciate more opportunities to learn? …more insight into both the course content and the learning process that you all have developed while working at TJ’s?

Why I work up here…
Posted by Susie under why tutor? | Tags: feedback, learning process, minimum wage, professors, why tutor? |Leave a Comment
I marvel at the many reasons why students work up here. And why I stay…I have a salary–not too big, but a lot more than the minimum wage tutors get (even though we’re lucky that we FL voters have raised the minimum wage several times in that past few years, it’s still not much.) I wonder if some of the reasons I like this job are similar to those that you peer tutors have for taking on this responsibility. Here’s mine:
- working with all the talented, high-performing students who tutor or consult
- getting students hooked on working with other students in tutoring or writing consulting sessions
- reflecting on ways we learn, analyzing what we do unconsciously
- talking with professors and students about learning in this or that course
- helping others do better; giving feedback to them on their process and their knowledge
- being in a relaxed, informal atmosphere where I can walk around without shoes!
